How do piano lessons work at Farmhouse?

Each lesson balances focused practice with making music together. Students spend 30 minutes in the Lab, then 30 minutes in Class Time.

The Lab

Build skills song by song

In the Lab, students work through their songbooks at their own pace. Each student plays an 88-key keyboard connected to a computer and practices with headphones.

The songbook is arranged in units that build skills step by step—from reading notes and playing rhythms to coordinating their fingers. It also includes a final review section.

Progress, one song at a time

The computer gives students feedback as they play, then scores their note accuracy when they finish a song. Students need at least 95% to pass.

Earn 100%, and they can choose a fun animal stamp for their book.

A teaching assistant circulates through the Lab to answer questions, help with hand posture, and celebrate students’ progress. Kids work independently, with support nearby—and classmates’ milestones can make passing a song feel like a shared celebration.

Class Time

Practice, listen, and create

For the second half, students move to the classroom and play together using their Discovery books. Organized into units, these books include finger drills that the class practices aloud.

Feel It

Short challenges help students practice identifying where notes belong.

Hear It

Listening activities help students recognize notes and hear changes in intervals.

Create It

Students use provided notes to make up their own rhythms and melodies.

The class also plays games that build music theory, rhythm, and listening skills.

During recital season, students have time to play the songs they’re preparing to perform.
